ABOUT JAMES BROWN

I am a Clinical Psychologist with a keen curiosity in the out of sync mind. I love working with different cultures, genders, races and ages as it is our uniqueness that ultimately connect us. I prefer to move in harmony with clients, at a pace, comfortably adapted to each person’s needs, enabling them to look around in the labyrinths of their own minds. I enjoy assisting clients in finding their true colours, identifying certain elements that might have impacted on their development.

I have a special interest in working with the troubled mind of adolescents (from the age of 15 years old), as I feel I have an understanding of the challenges that children (entering pre-adult age) this age go through when having to take the daunting steps into adulthood. When teenagers blend into their environment to protect themselves, they can sometimes lose their true identities to buy social security. Therefore, the actualising of the self at this crucial stage of life is imperative in order to develop a balanced person that is changed for the better and not one that constantly needs to adapt to survive.

I use an integrative approach that includes Rogerian principles of the Person-Centred Approach and Psychodynamic philosophies of attachment theory. This means working on what the client wants to and looking back at early life challenges. I like to look at these aspects in a systemic way in which individuals find themselves part of and encourage the understanding of the holistic being.

On a lighter note, I love to balance my life with sport, exercise and red wine. I am a proud South African and I have strong will to empower and serve those in need.
